We suggest you read this book at a slow and gentle pace. Allow your child time to look at the pictures, explore the thoughts, and ask questions. Hopefully this will inspire discussion about death and let the child share ideas.
It is not important to know the answers to every question asked. I don't know is often the most appropriate response. Often you can add, What do you think? so the child can talk freely.
You can use this book as a vehicle for talking about feelings and ways to cope with the death of a loved one. Sharing this book and your tears together is an excellent way to take time out and focus on the mysterious experience of childhood grief. May you both be enriched as you become companions on this long journey.
